NHL Rumors: 3 Goalies Who Could Be Traded This Season
The NHL trade market is picking up in a major way as talks have skyrocketed this week. There's a number of teams looking to make deals to improve their roster and this includes in net. Goalie trades will be up this season and here's a few who could be on the move in the very near future:
Jordan Binnington, St Louis Blues
There's no denying the fact that Joel Hofer is the Blues goaltending of the future so Binnington is going to be moved eventually but some are surprised it could be this season. There's recently been chatter about a trade to Edmonton as the Oilers search for a save continues. It may be on team Binnington would waive his no-trade clause for as he's familiar with several players from their childhood days. Regardless, it would be a complicated trade but it does sound possible to see this season.
Carter Hart, Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers are still in full rebuild mode and essentially everything is on the table at this point. Hart is someone is a pending restricted free agent and frankly it just hasn't worked out for the young netminder after heavy expectations were put on his shoulders to save the franchise. The Flyers have talked to the Oilers about Hart and that seemed to go nowhere. The 25-year-old makes $3.9 million against the cap and so far in eight appearances this season has a solid .913 save percentage.
Martin Jones, Toronto Maple Leafs
One of the more experienced goalies currently in the AHL, the Leafs have received a few calls on Jones so far to start the season. With 27 wins last season, you can't blame GM's for checking in. The 33-year-old is on a one-year deal at $875,000 against the NHL cap and so far in four AHL appearances this season, it hasn't necessarily gone to plan with a 3.25 GAA. Desperate times call for desperate measures however, so we'll have to wait and see if anyone budges or if even the Leafs move Jones up for a look as they have their own goaltending issues to worry about.
