NHL Rumors: Surprising Team Linked To Zadorov Trade Rumors

When sizeable Calgary Flames defenseman Nikita Zadorov declared his intention to secure a trade, a few expected suitors rose to the forefront. But on Sunday, a surprising team was added to the list, as the Philadelphia Flyers were linked to the hulking Russian D-man.

Former NHLer Mike Commodore (for whatever his opinion is worth) sent out a tweet this weekend calling for Zadorov to pack up and take his "stuff" to Philadelphia.

Wherever this idea comes from, it strikes us as a bit questionable. The Flyers are not a Stanley Cup contender by adding the 28-year-old defender, whereas other teams he's been linked to (Toronto, Vancouver, New Jersey) certainly could be.

Imagine the combustible mix of Zadorov and Flyers head coach John Tortorella if things go awry. On the other hand, the hard-hitting, physical blueliner would be a Torts favorite when things are going well.

But perhaps one of the biggest under-the-radar reasons the Flyers might hesitate to bring Zadorov in, as noted in Philly Hockey Now, is that he has been a vocal opponent of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. With Philly anxious to bring 2023 No. 7 overall pick Matvei Michkov over to the States upon the expiry of his current 3-year deal in Russia, they certainly wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize that.

The Flyers are having a better-than-expected season thus far at 7-7-1, but trading away some of their assets for the veteran defenseman sounds a bit far-fetched at this point.
