Oilers Rumors: 3 Players Most Likely to Be Traded From Edmonton
While the Edmonton Oilers are doing whatever they can to fix their issues internally, GM Ken Holland has been busy working the phones to gauge the trade market. With American Thanksgiving upon us, the NHL's trade chatter has picked up in a major way and the Oilers are dead smack in the middle of it.
There's little doubt Holland is trying to find ways to improve his goaltending situation and for some depth on defense. Edmonton can't keep the puck out of their own net and will need to secure some more talent on their back end and in their crease if they want to make a run into the Stanley Cup Playoff picture.
While some talent will be coming in, here's the talent who could be shipped out as these Oilers are prime trade candidates:
Xavier Bourgault
The 2021 first-round pick seems to be the hottest name among rival GM's when they connect with the Oilers. Whether or not Holland is ready to move on from the 21-year-old is the question. Bourgault is a slightly undersized forward who put up 34 points in 62 games as a rookie in the AHL last season. He's got some potential to be a middle-six forward and if the Oilers want to land anyone significant on the trade market, it likely starts with Bourgault.
Jack Campbell
Speaking of AHL, not many saw this type of downfall coming for Campbell after signing a five-year contract a couple of summers ago. He finally picked up a win in the minors and hopefully it's the beginning of a turnaround as Campbell is one of the nicest people in hockey. The Oilers cost won't be nice though as many feel it will take a first and third-round pick to get anyone to accept taking on the remainder of his contract.
Vincent Desharnais
The Oilers have discussed Desharnais at times this season but so far haven't bit. The towering defenseman brings some sandpaper game in and game out as a pending free agent making just $762,500, there's no doubt why GM's across the league have contacted Holland on his asking price. If things don't turn around quick for the Oilers, Desharnais could be the first player shipped out as there's heavy interest around the league.
