Oilers Rumors: 5 Goalies Who Could End Up Traded to Edmonton

The Edmonton Oilers are in search of a save and GM Ken Holland is running out of time before his team gets so far behind in the Western Conference standings that the season is lost. There's been a lot of trade speculation brewing in Edmonton and according to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Oil have five trade candidates to consider.

Seravalli names James Reimer of the Detroit Red Wings, Mackenzie Blackwood of the San Jose Sharks, Jake Allen of the Montreal Canadiens, Karel Vejmelka of the Arizona Coyotes and Carter Hart of the Philadelphia Flyers as emerging candidates.

Hart is the best of the bunch when it comes to fit as he's an Edmonton native and someone who apparently has been on the team's radar before. Allen is the most experienced when it comes to playoff success and his underlying numbers during the post season are quite impressive despite his 11-11 record.

The Oilers are also trying to move on from Jack Campbell, who earned a shutout in the minors earlier this week for his first win in four attempts. Campbell could cost Holland a first and third round pick if he wants to rid himself of the bad contract that runs through the 2026-27 season at $5 million per season.

In regards to adding Hart, Seravalli had this to say about the 25-year-old Flyers netminder who has recorded a 2.40 GAA in 10 games this season:

Hart is unquestionably the best goaltender on this list. He’s from Edmonton. And if the price is right, the Flyers would likely be open to moving him. He might be 30 by the time the Flyers get to where GM Danny Briere envisions them being – and let’s face it, Hart’s stellar play is only holding Philadelphia back from better draft position right now. Hart would not only have the highest acquisition cost on this board, but he also has something hanging over his head as a member of Team Canada’s 2018 World Junior Championship team that has been embroiled in an appalling sexual assault investigation. That investigation has lingered on now – and some believe it has made Hart and other players connected to that team untradeable. In fact, it might even make him a nonstarter for the Oilers. Would anyone trade for him now not knowing what may be around the corner? Maybe not. But if he is assumed to be innocent until proven otherwise, he’s playing, and he’s playing at an incredibly high level.

There's no doubt Holland has to do something, and something quick or else he may be looking for a new job before he knows it.
