Penguins Moving On From Andreas Johnsson

The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed forward Andreas Johnsson on unconditional waivers for the purposes of contract termination.

Seeing Johnsson hit unconditional waivers is not surprising, as reports have surfaced that the veteran winger is set to sign a three-year contract with Skellefteå AIK of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Now that his deal is being terminated, this overseas sign should come to fruition shortly.

Johnsson signed with the Penguins this offseason and hoped to make their bottom six. However, he was sent down to the American Hockey League (AHL) before the start of the season and did not report to the club.

A multi-year deal overseas would likely will mark the end of Johnsson's NHL career, but it is fair to say he had a solid one. In 259 career games, he had 48 goals, 68 assists, and 116 points.
