Pittsburgh Penguins Sign Free Agent Defenseman

The Pittsburgh Penguins have bolstered their defensive lineup by signing 24-year-old defenseman Dmitri Samorukov to a one-year contract with an NHL-level value of $775,000.

Samorukov's journey to the Penguins began when he was originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft.

Over the course of his career, he has gained limited experience, making three NHL appearances, one with the Oilers and two with the St. Louis Blues.

In the current season, Samorukov showcased his skills in the AHL while playing 15 games for the Penguins' affiliate team, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, where he contributed with one goal and four assists.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 188 pounds, Samorukov brings both size and potential to the Penguins' defensive lineup.

As previously mentioned, Samorukov is a former third-round pick (84th overall) by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Photo Credit: James Carey Lauder-USA TODAY Sports
