Sharks' Mackenzie Blackwood Providing Value As Top Trade Candidate
The San Jose Sharks just made a move that helped their future, and while they are terrible this season, all that matters is that they build for that future. In doing so, they have to find value in their players, and one that has shown the most is Mackenzie Blackwood.
The Sharks signed him for two years before the season to split time with Kaapo Kahkonen, but Blackwood has already taken over the starting role. As a goalie who was highly touted coming into the NHL with the New Jersey Devils at 22 years old, injuries impacted his career and he eventually found himself in San Jose at age 27. While it is never usually a good thing when a goalie is behind a defense and team as bad as the Sharks are, he is holding his own and keeping the team in a bunch of games.
The Sharks, despite being 1-10-1 and only scoring 14 goals in 12 games, have allowed three goals or less in six games and Blackwood has a .892 SV% despite getting peppered with shots every game. There are some teams with goalies who have really struggled this season and others who have injuries impacting them. It makes the most sense for the Sharks to trade what older players with value they have and Blackwood has become potentially the best option to dangle out there in a trade at this time.
