Sharks Rumors: 3 Potential Trade Destinations for Tomas Hertl

The San Jose Sharks are off to a historically bad start to the season, sitting winless, 0-10-1 after 11 games. It went from bad to worse on Saturday night as the Sharks welcomed back legend Erik Karlsson and his new Pittsburgh Penguins teammates to town and lost 10-2.

Needless to say, the Sharks are bad and are a lock to win the NHL Draft Lottery next spring. There's also the trade deadline to consider and GM Mike Grier is going to be busy shipping out veterans who could potentially help other teams. This includes Tomas Hertl, even though he's signed through the 2029-30 season at $8.1 million.

Hertl holds a full no-movement clause for this season and Grier has already mentioned if he wants to go, the Sharks will listen and make it happen. Hertl has recorded a team high seven points in 11 games so far this season and is playing over 20 minutes a game.

As far as trade destinations, there will be a number of teams who will call the Sharks to see if Hertl would approve a trade to their club. This likely includes the Boston Bruins, who could add up front before the deadline, along with the Detroit Red Wings and the Buffalo Sabres. Two younger teams who would love to insert a soon-to-be 30-year-old Hertl into their lineup.

Keep an eye on the Sharks, even though things are getting really ugly in a hurry. Grier isn't going to be shy and he'll be offloading players in no time. While the likes of some of the pending free agents will likely be first, it won't be long before teams are calling about the asking price on Hertl.
