Sharks Rumors: Unexpected Goalie Listed As Top Trade Candidate

After trading Timo Meier and Erik Karlsson this year, everybody knew that the San Jose Sharks were going to be bad. Even with those two on the team and before Logan Couture got injured, they were a bottom-feeder. Now they are at the depths of the league and just chugging along trying to get to the end of the season and get a high pick.

As they are such a bad team and there's very little chance they even sniff the playoffs this season, the Sharks have a number of trade candidates this season they can deal to contenders to get any sort of return. While many believed that Mackenzie Blackwood would be the main target in net, not only because he is having a strong year, but because of another year left on his deal, The Athletic actually listed Kaapo Kahkonen as the trade candidate in net from the Sharks on their top-25 list at this point in the season.

While Blackwood's numbers have been very strong for a team this bad, Kahkonen hasn't been horrible. Blackwood has started 14 games and played in 16 while Kahkonen has started eight and played in nine this season. They each have two really bad starts, indicated by a save percentage in a game lower than .85. Blackwood's quality start percentage is very very good, which overshadows Kahkonen who has four quality starts.

Kahkonen has a .889 SV% this season and a 4.12 goals against average. Don't mind the GAA since the team gets peppered with shots for the most part and the goalies are mostly left out to dry. Kahkonen may very well be the goalie traded from the Sharks this season due to his expiring contract and much cheaper cost to acquire. We don't know how much better he'll play with a good team in front of him. Mu guess, a good deal better.
