Stars Rumors: Dallas to Eventually Trade for a Defenseman

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Dallas Stars are a team to watch when it comes to the trade market and more specifically adding a defenseman. Friedman was recently a guest on Leafs Morning Take and during the conversation about the Leafs acquiring a d-man, pointed out that the Stars would be a team looking to make a significant move.

The Stars have their first and second-round draft picks they could dangle closer to the deadline. They also have a number of young forwards who will draw interest from other teams. Currently Dallas has less than $500,000 in cap space so it's going to take some creativity from GM Jim Nill to pull off any move.

With Miro Heiskanen, Esa Lindell, and Ryan Suter who can all play the left side, it's likely the Stars target right-handed blueliners. Matt Dumba of the Arizona Coyotes is someone who could make sense as a defensive target, same goes for Chris Tanev of the Calgary Flames.

The trade market across the NHL is picking up steam with more discussions happening every day. Some teams are already changing their direction thanks to some awful starts, however the Stars appear set to be a contender in the Western Conference. Even more so if they land another defenseman before the March trade deadline. Keep an eye on more targets to come from NHLTR as talks continue.
