4 Blue Jackets Listed As Top Trade Targets: 1 Player Missing

The Daily Faceoff has released their rankings for the top-20 trade targets this season. This includes a number of names you would have probably thought would appear. On the struggling Columbus Blue Jackets, four names appear throughout.

Andrew Peeke or Adam Boqvist came in the highest at number 12. The expectation is that one of them will be moved well before the trade deadline this season. Peeke has sat out for most of the season as a healthy scratch and Boqvist has only gotten back in the lineup due to Damon Severson's injury. At 16th is Jack Roslovic who is injured at the moment, but isn't really needed with all of the young talent on the roster. The team could get something decent in return for him. The fourth name is Alexandre Texier at 18th. This player just returned from overseas after taking a year off from the NHL and is in the middle of the jammed up forward group. For a player that can play the second or third line wing on many teams, he's currently skating on the fourth line. The Blue Jackets can afford to trade this upcoming RFA with value.

So, all of those names make sense to appear on the top-20, but what about Spencer Martin? Solid goaltending isn't very easy to come by and Martin has provided that for the Blue Jackets this season. He has stabilized the backup role in Columbus after being claimed on waivers and sports a .903 SV% this season. He is on a very cheap contract that expires after the season and the Blue Jackets are going to have to choose between Daniil Tarasov and Martin when Tarasov returns from injury, which will be soon. Better to trade Martin before they waive him and lose him for nothing. At least they would be able to get a mid-late round pick in return. Maybe we'll see his name appear on a later iteration of trade rankings if he's not dealt in advance.
