Boston Bruins Place Former 1st-Round Pick Defenseman On Waivers

The Boston Bruins have recently made a significant decision regarding Jakub Zboril, their first-round pick from the 2015 NHL Draft, by placing him on waivers.

The Bruins appear to be accommodating Zboril's request for a bigger opportunity and will see if another team is interested in giving him that.

Jakub Zboril, a 26-year-old defenseman, has experienced a somewhat tumultuous season.

This isn't the first time he's been placed on waivers; earlier in the 2023-24 season, he faced a similar situation just before the regular season commenced on October 8.

Zboril has been a depth player for the Bruins, initially positioned as their seventh defenseman.

However, he faced challenges in maintaining his position, eventually being supplanted by Mason Lohrei and Parker Wotherspoon.

His time with the main team has been limited, leading to the current decision by the Bruins' front office.

During the 2023-24 season, Zboril spent his time playing in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Providence Bruins.

His performance there seems not to have been enough to secure his spot in the main lineup.

Over his four-year career, spent entirely with Boston, Zboril has scored one goal and 16 total points across 76 games played, along with a -1 plus/minus rating.

This step could potentially pave the way for a contract termination, as it appears the team is looking to make adjustments that align with their current and future strategic goals. Photo Credit: Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports
