Capitals' Alex Ovechkin Hits Remarkable Milestone

Washington Capitals superstar winger Alex Ovechkin reached an outstanding milestone in the team's shootout loss last night (Dec. 7) to the Dallas Stars. The Great 8 hit 1,500 career points with an assist on Dylan Strome's third-period goal.

Ovechkin became the 16th player in NHL history to reach 1,500 points. This is quite the accomplishment for the future Hall of Famer, but he's not done yet. He is, of course, in striking distance of passing Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in the NHL history. He needs just 68 more goals to pass The Great One.

However, 1,500 points is a real achievement for the 38-year-old winger. He has had a truly outstanding career, and it will be fun to see what other milestones he gets before he officially hangs up the skates.

In 1,370 career games as a Capital, Ovechkin has 827 goals, 673 assists, and 1,500 points.
