Kraken Engaged In Talks Regarding Canadiens Goalies
The Montreal Canadiens are still rostering three goaltenders, but with the need around the league, the Canadiens could pull off a deal with a number of teams. One team in particular that is showing interest is the Seattle Kraken as Philipp Gurbauer is injured and the team has yet to get Chris Driedger in a game.
Bruce Garrioch reported that the Kraken have talked to the Canadiens about their goaltenders. This likely excludes Sam Montembeault after he signed a three-year contract extension, but likely includes Jake Allen more so than Cayden Primeau.
If the Kraken were to pull off a deal with the Canadiens involving Allen, Driedger would have to be a piece going the other way to level out the cap. This also indicated that the Kraken could be without Grubauer for a good chunk of time and are working their younger goalie, Joey Daccord, a lot. He has done well in the role, but does need help. The Kraken feel like they are very much in the playoff race and aren't giving up yet. This potential move for Allen would help them out for the remainder of this season, but the team would have to decide on whether they would move Grubauer or Allen in the offseason since Daccord is the clear long-term option.
