Pittsburgh Penguins Defenseman Hitting Waivers

While speaking with reporters, Kyle Dubas shared that the Pittsburgh Penguins will be placing defenseman Dmitri Samorukov on waivers.

Samorukov, 24, signed an American Hockey League (AHL) contract with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to start the season but then earned an NHL contract from Pittsburgh a few weeks ago. After signing his deal, he was with the NHL roster but has yet to make his season debut for Pittsburgh. Now, he is heading to waivers and will be back in the AHL if he goes unclaimed because of it.

Samorukov has just three games of NHL experience on his resume, split between the St. Louis Blues and Edmonton Oilers. With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, the 6-foot-3 defenseman has one goal to go along with five points.

Teams needing depth on defense could consider snagging Samorukov, especially if they feel that he has the potential to become a bottom-pairing NHL defenseman. We will need to wait and see what happens on that front from here.
