Red Wings Rumors: Trade Talks Continue Around Jonatan Berggren
The Detroit Red Wings have surprised many this season and recently they've called up forward Jonatan Berggren to help their cause. Berggren is a former second-round pick from 2018 who hasn't necessarily, in his eyes, been given a fair shot to produce in the NHL.
Berggren appeared in 67 games last season, however has only seen six games of action this season. There's been some rumblings a trade request could have been discussed, and after performing well in his recent callup, the talks are starting to heat up. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman mentioned Berggren in his recent 32 thoughts and had this to say:
Two goals in two games for Jonatan Berggren since his call-up. I’m not sure he’d gone as far as asking for a trade from Detroit, but everyone was aware he wanted more of an opportunity. You’ve got to be ready when it comes, and he is.
Berggren has collected 31 points in 73 NHL games since being drafted five years ago and it's come to a crossroad where a trade could benefit all involved. The Wings need help on defense and moving out Berggren along with either a draft pick or mid-level prospect could fetch Steve Yzerman what he's looking for.
The #LGRW have been engaged in trade talks lately, per source. Jonatan Berggren, who was scratched in today's Grand Rapids game (that is still ongoing), is one of the players believed to be in recent discussions.
