Red Wings Sign Veteran Goalie to NHL Deal
The Detroit Red Wings have signed goaltender Michael Hutchinson to a one-year, two-way contract for the rest of the 2023-24 season.
Hutchinson has spent this season on an AHL contract with the Red Wings' affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. The 33-year-old has made 13 appearances with the AHL squad, where he has a 5-7-1 record to go along with a .895 SV%.
This signing comes right after Ville Husso left the Red Wings' last game against the Anaheim Ducks with an injury. With that, fellow Red Wings goaltender netminder Alex Lyon has also been sidelined. Thus, the Red Wings needed a goalie and have given Hutchinson this two-way deal because of it.
Hutchinson will now serve as the Red Wings' backup until one of Lyon or Husso is good to return. It does not hurt bringing him in, either, as he has several years of experience.
