Sharks Rumors: Goalie Becoming Trade Candidate
After being traded by the New Jersey Devils to the San Jose Sharks, goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood has turned his game around. Due to this and the Sharks being at the bottom of the NHL standings, Blackwood is starting to emerge as a big-time trade candidate.
Blackwood is showing this season that he can be effective on a bad Sharks team. In 17 games, he may have a 3-10-2 record, but his .903 SV% shows that he is not the main reason for his losing record. The Sharks' offense has been anemic this season, while their defense in front of him is not reliable in the slightest.
Blackwood could certainly generate interest from teams needing a new goalie, but he also has a $2.35 million cap hit until the end of next season. Because of this, any team that adds him will need to be okay with him being more than a rental.
We will need to wait and see if the Sharks end up moving on from Blackwood from here.
