Calgary Flames Forward Placed On Waivers
Calgary Flames forward Kevin Rooney is available for the taking, as he has been placed on waivers by the club.
Rooney has been on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) for the entirety of this season, so this waiver placement is an indicator that Rooney is now ready to get his season started. However, before joining the Calgary Wranglers in the American Hockey League (AHL), he will first need to get clear waivers.
Rooney appeared in 17 games with the Flames last season, where he had one assist and a minus-2 rating. From there, he would be placed on waivers in early December and was never called back up to the NHL roster. In 51 games last season with the Wranglers following his demotion, he had five goals to go along with 17 points.
Given the fact that Rooney spent the majority of the last season in the AHL and carries a $1.3 million contract, it would be pretty surprising if he ends up finding a new home through the waiver wire. However, crazier things have happened.
We will now need to wait and see what happens with Rooney from here. If he clears, he will officially begin his season in the AHL with the Wranglers and look to make a big impact for them from there.
