The Flames have released the following statement:
Dillon Dube has been granted an indefinite leave of absence from the team while he attends to his mental health. Dillon is under the care of health professionals, and we request that Dillon's privacy is respected during this period.
Dube has been struggling this season on the ice, with just three goals and seven points in 43 games with a plus/minus of -13. He's only averagged 11:10 minutes per game, his lowest ice time since his rookie year in 2018-19.
This season, he was trying to follow up on two strong years in which he'd notched back-to-back 18-goal campaigns, but it hasn't worked out. He recorded career-highs of 45 points and 15:10 of ice time last season while playing in all 82 games.
The former 2nd-round pick (2016 NHL Entry Draft) was a healthy scratch as recently as Jan. 9 and has been skating in the bottom six. In his last appearance, last Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Dube got just 5:35 of ice time.
Our mental health is critically important. That is no exaggeration. Good on Dillon Dube to recognize he needed to seek assistance. Good on the Calgary Flames organization for supporting him.
