Flames Rumors: 2 Teams Expected to Enter Chris Tanev Sweepstakes
Calgary Flames defenseman Chris Tanev is one of the most notable trade candidates in the NHL as we inch closer to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. As a result of this, the veteran defenseman is already garnering interest, as the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils, and Vancouver Canucks are all currently linked to him. However, more teams are surely going to enter the sweepstakes during this upcoming week, and here are two specific clubs who are expected to do just that.
Dallas Stars: The Dallas Stars could use some serious help on the right side of their defensive group, so they are a team to watch very closely when it comes to Tanev. They need a reliable defensive defenseman with experience on their blue line, so don't be surprised if they make a big push for Tanev. The fit on paper looks like it is there, as he would fit on their second pairing and be a solid addition on their penalty kill.
Winnipeg Jets: The Winnipeg Jets are having an excellent season and are looking like legitimate contenders because of it. Due to this, they are gearing up to the big buyers this season, and it would not be surprising if they made a big push for Tanev. Their right side could use a boost before the postseason, and Tanev would give them that. This is especially so when noting that they could use a strong shutdown defenseman with plenty of experience.
