Ottawa Senators Getting Aggressive on Trade Market
The Ottawa Senators enter Saturday night's game against the Edmonton Oilers with a 14-20-0 record and even though they have a bunch of games in hand on a number of teams, don't expect to see the Sens get out of the basement of the Eastern Conference.
GM Steve Staios has made some moves in the front office and now it's time to re-tool on the fly as the organization feels another roster adjustment could get the team back on track. Hockey insider Darren Dreger recently confirmed that Staios is making some trade calls and the heat has been turned way up in Ottawa:
Big test for @Senators tonight in Edmonton. Nothing close, but Sens GM Steve Staios has definitely let it be known he wants to be aggressive on the trade front. Makeup of the team needs to be changed. Won’t involve Ottawa’s young talent. Staios is in a lot of conversations.

Don't expect to see anyone named Stutzle, Tkachuk, Sanderson, Pinto, Batherson, Giroux or Norris moved but there's been some speculation brewing that Joonas Korpisalo, Vladimir Tarasenko, Travis Hamonic and even Jakob Chychrun have been dangled in trade talks to see what type of creativity Staios is going to have to pull off to induce some fresh talent into the Sens lineup.
Ottawa sits with just over $400,000 in deadline cap space so Staios will have to ensure the money adds up which compliments things even more. Considering where the Senators are in the standings, they should have more flexibility when it comes to cap space but Staios can thank Pierre Dorion for the mess.
