Red Wings Rumors: 3 Players Who Won't Be Traded Ahead of Deadline
The Detroit Red Wings sit with a 20-16-4 record on the season and have begun to creep their way up the standings in the Eastern Conference. GM Steve Yzerman is going to be aggressive on the trade market if the Wings are in a playoff spot as they've already shown with the signing of Patrick Kane earlier this season, Detroit is going for it.
While there's certainly a few Red Wings who have been on the trade block for most of the season, here's three players, outside the obvious, who are not getting moved out of Motown:
Daniel Sprong
Sprong has impressed the organization and continues to fire pucks on net from anywhere. He's a pending unrestricted free agent but all signs are pointing to Yzerman having some interest in getting a contract extension done with the 26-year-old. So far in 40 games, Sprong has scored 10 goals and added 16 assists, and look for the two sides to continue to work on something for the future.
Alex Lyon
Lyon has become the Red Wings #1 goalie and all signs are pointing to that not changing anytime soon. He's been known to be a streaky netminder and is currently heating up in a major way. At 31 years old and signed for next season at a very reasonable $900,000, Lyon has a golden opportunity in front of him right now and Yzerman is looking like a genius bringing him in as a third goalie behind two veterans who have been known to be injury prone. Lyon's posted a .920 Sv.% in 12 appearances this season and is one of the hottest goalies in the NHL right now.
Justin Holl
After starting the season looking like an early Norris candidate, Justin Holl has come back down to earth and is essentially untradeable. Holl is making $3.4 million against the cap for the next two seasons and holds a 10-team no-trade clause. He hasn't scored in 27 games this season and has added five assists while playing second penalty kill minutes. Might be a deal Yzerman would like to have back at this point.
