5 Red Wings Who Could Be Traded, Led By Patrick Kane

For the time being, the Detroit Red Wings are looking good, in the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, winners of six of their last ten (6-2-2) going into Thursday night. At the moment, it's doubtful that they'd be selling at the trade deadline, with a chance at a long-awaited return to the playoffs.

But, says Red Wings insider Kevin Allen in Detroit Hockey Now, if things fall apart over the next month, there are five players who could be dealt to further add to the team's asset pool. And it starts with 3-time Stanley Cup winner Patrick Kane.

Patrick Kane

Despite the veteran's personal choice to go with Detroit when he signed a deal in late November while being pursued by many teams, the Wings, says Allen, will check with Kane about if or where he might want to be dealt should the team decide to sell.

David Perron

After scoring 51 goals in his previous two seasons, Perron's production is down this year, with just 10 markers in 41 games. But the 35-year-old's abilities as a great locker room guy could make him a valuable add for a team down the stretch.

Shayne Gostisbehere

The 30-year-old defenceman is having a strong offensive season, with 32 points in 49 games. That does, however, come along with a plus-minus rating of -20. He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, coming off his $4.125 million cap hit.

Daniel Sprong

The Red Wings would like to resign Sprong, coming off his $2 million salary, but if they don't feel they can get a reasonable contract done, the 26-year-old forward could also be on the move.

James Reimer

He's far from an impact goalie at this advanced stage of his career, but the 35-year-old Reimer could likely be had for a later-round draft, pick and provide some depth for a team looking for that between the pipes.

For now, the Red Wings remain in contention for a playoff spot, but if that should change over the next four weeks, any of the above names could find themselves in a new uniform.
