Buffalo Sabres' Top 3 Trade Candidates At 2024 Deadline

The Buffalo Sabres are on the edge of fully being counted out of the playoff race, but they still don't have a great shot regardless. This has led to a lot of trade rumors surrounding the team and who the Sabres should try to move on from. These are the top three candidates ahead of the trade deadline this season.

Victor Olofsson

Victor Oloffson hasn't fit in the Sabres' lineup all season and has been overlooked for younger upcoming talent. His abilities have been wasted lower in the lineup and as he's a UFA after the season, there is no point in the Sabres keeping him around and not trying to get an asset back. Buffalo will have to retain quite a bit of his cap hit, but should be able to move him to a contender that needs more scoring depth.

Erik Johnson

Erik Johnson was brought in to be a leader on the Sabres this season for the young group and has done his job. Since he is only under contract until the end of the season and there are more young defenders pushing for playing time in the NHL, the best course of action is to move him while the market for right-shot defenders isn't great as always. He is a veteran and former Stanley Cup winner with tons of experience that could help out a bottom pairing or be a seventh option.

Kyle Okposo

There has been more chatter recently involving the Sabres' captain, Kyle Okposo. He has been very productive in his limited role and is a great leader. Lots of teams need scoring depth that he provides, plus his cap hit is reasonable and can be partially retained. There have been a few teams recently linked to him and since he's 35 now, it is a good trade if the Sabres can move him for value in return.
