Canadiens Rumors: 2 New Teams Interested In David Savard
The Montreal Canadiens are gearing up for the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. The expectation is that they will be sellers, and they already got started on that when they moved Sean Monahan to the Winnipeg Jets. While he was their biggest trade chip, they still have some notable names who could be moved before the deadline as well.
While the Canadiens are not actively shopping defenseman David Savard, he is understandably receiving plenty of interest around the NHL. Two teams who have been linked to him over the last few weeks include the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Yet, two more clubs have entered the mix, as the Fourth Period reported that the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars are also linked to the right-shot defenseman.
Adding a right-shot defenseman would be worthwhile for the Oilers, as it is an area that could use a boost. Savard would be an upgrade to their second pairing, and he also would work wonderfully on their penalty kill because of his steady defensive play.
As for the Stars, their right side is arguably the weakest part of their lineup, so adding a right-shot defenseman before the deadline is a necessity for them. Bringing in a player like Savard would be massive for them, as he would give them more bite and overall dependability on the blue line.
We will need to wait and see if either of these two teams can convince that the Canadiens to part ways with Savard. However, it will need to be a big offer, as the Habs understandably value him immensely.
