Canadiens Rumors: 2 Teams Eyeing David Savard

While the Montreal Canadiens do not actively want to trade defenseman David Savard, the veteran defenseman is a player to keep an eye on over these next few years, as he is still generating plenty of interest around the league. If the Canadiens get a big enough offer for him, there is a possibility that he will get dealt because of it.

According to The Fourth Period, two teams who are currently linked to the veteran defenseman include the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Maple Leafs need some help on the right side of their defensive group, so it is understandable that the Maple Leafs have him on their radar. He would be a nice fit on their second pairing, and he would of course work on their penalty kill because of his steady defensive play. With that, he would give their blue line more bite, which they certainly could use, especially when we get to the playoffs.

As for the Lightning, Savard is a familiar face to them, as he previously played for them. They have been in the market for a right-shot defenseman all season, and they have an even bigger need for defensive help with Mikhail Sergachev's long-term injury. Due to this, they certainly are in a position to add to their roster, and Savard would be a great fit.

While the Maple Leafs and Lightning are expressing interest in Savard, a trade centering around him before the trade deadline is far from guaranteed, as the Habs want to keep him around. However, we will need to wait and see if either of these two teams can send the Canadiens an offer that they cannot refuse from here.
