Canadiens Rumors: David Savard Linked to Division Rival

The Montreal Canadiens have a notable trade candidate in veteran defenseman David Savard. While they are not actively shopping him, there is no question that he has the potential to get them a big return because of his steady defensive play and physicality.

Savard has naturally been generating interest around the NHL, too, as the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, and Colorado Avalanche have all been connected to him in recent weeks. Yet, it appears that a new club is also interested in Savard, as The Fourth Period is now reporting that the Boston Bruins are linked to him.

Seeing that the Bruins are looking at Savard makes sense. The right side of their defensive group could use a bit more stability, and Savard would have the potential to provide them with just that. When looking at a specific spot for him in their lineup, he would work nicely on their bottom pairing. Along with that, he would be a clear choice for their penalty kill.

The Bruins have also been having some serious trouble keeping leads and have specifically been dropping the ball in the final minutes of games. Because of this, they would be wise to add a shutdown defenseman like Savard to help fix this issue.

Savard would also be more than a rental for the Bruins, as he is under contract until the end of the next season.

We will need to wait and see if the Bruins and Habs make a rare trade centering around Savard from here.
