Canadiens Rumors: Montreal Not Interested in Trading Defenseman
The Montreal Canadiens have been active on the trade market already this season, moving Sean Monahan to the Winnipeg Jets in a fine work of business. Now, GM Kent Hughes is turning his attention to some of his other pending free agents, meanwhile continues to get calls on several of his players. This includes defenseman David Savard.
All signs so far are pointing to the Canadiens holding onto Savard. The right-handed defenseman has one season left on his contract, at $3.5 million AAV and even though Savard doesn't have any trade protection, it seems his play is doing the trick.
Savard's enjoyed a nice bounce back season and appears to be getting his health on track. He's managed to record 11 points in 28 games and continues to do a fine job on the penalty kill. He's blocking shots like a mad man, with 87 through the 28 mentioned games.
Insider Pierre LeBrun recently commented on Savard's availability and had this to say:
Cont’d: “…but at the moment he’s not a player the Habs bring up to other teams, they’re not committed to trading him”

While there's other Canadiens who could be moved including Tanner Pearson and Jake Allen, as it stands now, don't expect to see Savard shipped out unless somebody gives Hughes an offer he can't refuse.
