Carolina Hurricanes' Top 3 Trade Candidates At 2024 Deadline

The Carolina Hurricanes sit firmly in a playoff spot, so their goal is to upgrade. This likely won't come without players being moved off of their roster at the same time, so this is a look at the top three trade candidates the team has going into the 2024 deadline.

Tony DeAngelo

Tony DeAngelo just hasn't fit in with the Hurricanes the second time through. He isn't playing the same role he did when he first came to Carolina, and with less playing time, has not been effective. The Hurricanes have opted to make him a healthy scratch often this season and they have arguably been much better for it. With a cap hit of $1.675 million AAV and on an expiring contract, that is money that may have to be sent back in a trade to upgrade where needed. I don't see him getting into very many games down the stretch and in the playoffs with Jalen Chatfield taking over nicely on the third pairing.

Martin Necas

Martin Necas could be a very solid piece for the Hurricanes for a long time, or he may be used to acquire a major piece to win now. He has been linked to the Nashville Predators as someone the team is very interested in if they are to trade Juuse Saros. Necas has a great cap hit this season and is a very good player, but he is also a RFA after the season and will need a big raise, something the Hurricanes may not be willing to play ball with. He didn't do great in playoffs last season as well compared to his regular season, so this could play a factor in his position with the team.

Spencer Martin

The Hurricanes appear to be close to getting Frederik Andersen back, which means Spencer Martin will be the odd man out with Pyotr Kochetkov putting in great work this season with a .925 SV% in four starts. Martin had a decent start to the season behind a Columbus Blue Jackets team that has really struggled, but has really shown what he is capable of on the Hurricanes. With such a low cap hit and certain teams needing goaltending help, Martin could be dealt for something if Carolina is certain Andersen is good to go and will stay healthy.
