Elias Pettersson Situation Becoming "Very Odd" in Vancouver

The Vancouver Canucks want to re-sign Elias Pettersson to a long-term contract and have reportedly made several different contract offers. It's starting to sound like the feeling may not be mutual.

There's already been a few teams who have reached out to GM Patrik Allvin regarding trade availability and to this point, nothing has materialized on that front. The Canucks obviously prefer to keep Pettersson around long-term and have made this known to him multiple times, regardless of the contract length, and again not much has changed on the player's end.

The Swedish centre is a pending restricted free agent and is signed for this season at $7.3 million. He's due for a raise, and the Canucks are willing to provide it, but unfortunately for management the player doesn't appear to be chomping at the bit to sign an extension.

Matt Murley of Game Notes/Spittin Chiclets reportedly a few weeks ago that he heard Pettersson wants to head to Chicago. So far this hasn't taken legs, but certainly will this summer if an extension isn't completed. Pettersson has recorded 29 goals and 75 points in 61 games and will be looking at over $10 million AAV on his next deal.

Hockey insider Frank Seravalli recently commented on the situation and admits things are getting very bizarre around the Canucks:
