Flames' Noah Hanifin Comments on Ongoing Trade Talks

The future of Noah Hanifin as a Calgary Flame is about as clear as mud. The mobile defenseman is set to hit free agency this summer and while a contract offer has been on the table for sometime from GM Craig Conroy, Hanifin didn't sign it over the All-Star break and now the trade talks have ramped up in a major way.

Hanifin was recently named the #1 trade target on the board by insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff and it sounds like the rumors are starting to get to the Flames blueliner. Hanifin was recently asked about all the buzz and had this to say:

It's definitely on my mind - I'd be lying if I said it wasn't. But I'm just trying to control what I can, and that's just playing hockey and trying to perform and help the team get wins.

The Flames have an eight-year extension on the table but Hanifin appears hesitant to sign it. He's owed $4.95 million against the cap this season and is likely going to get somewhere around $8 million on the open market. The Flames offer is likely closer to the $7 million mark.

Hanifin has recorded 28 points in 51 games this season and can play in all situations on a top-pair. The Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights and Tampa Bay Lightning have all been involved in trade conversations with Conroy. Hanifin owns a 8-team no-trade clause and will have a little bit of say in the matter, but regardless, the rumors are starting to get to the Flames defenseman and there's still just over three weeks to go until the trade deadline.
