Flames Reward Rookie With Multi-Year Extension

The Calgary Flames have liked what they've seen from rookie Martin Pospisil thus far, and have rewarded him on Wednesday with a multi-year extension.

It's a 2-year deal with a $1 million AAV, and he'll be a RFA with arbitration rights at the expiry of the pact.

The 24-year-old rookie has proven his worth to the Flames this season in limited minutes, registering four goals and seven assists for eleven points in 34 games in his freshman season. But what really pops off the stat sheet is his plus/minus rating of +10 which ranks him fourth among all rookies in the NHL.

“We have seen tremendous growth and maturity in Martin’s game since we drafted him in 2018," said Flames General Manager Craig Conroy. “Martin has become a big part of our team and we are excited to have him under contract for the next two years.”

Pospisil has not been afraid to mix things up either, as just Tuesday night he was ejected from the Flames' game with the Boston Bruins after coming to the defense of his netminder Jacob Markstrom after Bruins' pest Brad Marchand gave his goalie a few extra whacks with his stick after a whistle. Pospisil was ejected from the game, but earned the praise of his teammates.
