Flames Rumors: Calgary GM Rejecting Trade Offers on Defenseman

Calgary Flames GM Craig Conroy has been one of the busier executives already this season, pulling off a couple of trades. With the deadline just a few weeks away, lately, most of the trade talk has been surrounding Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin, turns out there's also Flames blueliners drawing interest from around the league.

27-year-old Rasmus Andersson continues to be a person of interest for onlooking teams, however so far, no offer Conroy has been happy with at this point. Andersson has registered seven goals and 28 points in 50 games this season.

His career best came back in 2021-22, when the Swedish d-man put up 50 points in 82 games. Andersson is owed $4.55 million through the 2025-26 season and his trade protection doesn't kick in until July 1, 2024. Conroy could be looking to get ahead of the no-trade and cash in while he has full control of trade talks.

There's been a lot of talk in Calgary about presenting Hanifin with a contract extension and so far, no answer. Meanwhile Tanev is drawing a ton of interest from contenders, but in an ideal word, Conroy would like to keep him around and sign him to an extension.

It's the dilemma of cashing in on a pending free agent, or riding it out to see if they'll re-sign in the summer. Considering what's gone on in Calgary the past couple of seasons, Conroy can't risk it and with the Flames creeping down lower in the Western Conference standings, there's no doubt he'll be selling ahead of March 8.
