Flames Rumors: Latest On Chris Tanev’s Trade Market

The Calgary Flames have a busy two weeks ahead of them as we get closer to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. This is because they are, naturally, going to be the biggest sellers, as they have the top trade candidates on the market. One of them is defenseman Chris Tanev, and he is generating a ton of interest.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman provided some updates regarding Tanev's current trade market, as he noted that the Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, and Colorado Avalanche are connected to the veteran defenseman.

Here is what the insider had to say on the matter: "With Chris Tanev, the Flames continue to hold and see if a first-rounder (or something they consider comparable) becomes available. Dallas is very much into this, although some teams suspect they like Hanifin, too. Others: Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver. Colorado’s been in and out, as have others."

It is understandable that the Flames are hoping for a first-round pick for Tanev, as he is a veteran top-four defenseman who plays a very reliable defensive game. He is exactly the kind of defenseman that every playoff team needs, so the Flames don't want to give him away for too cheap.

All five of the teams listed above absolutely would benefit by adding Tanev to their rosters. This is because they each could use an upgrade to their right side, and Tanev is one of the top options available this deadline season. We will need to wait and see where he ends up landing from here.
