Flyers Could Use Own Player As Rental This Season

The Philadelphia Flyers continue to impress this season as they sit in third in their division and are seven points ahead of anyone who could kick them out of their spot. There has been lots of speculation around this team all season. While many thought that they would drop off, this resilient group has defied those expectations and are set to compete in the playoffs.

As the trade deadline approaches, there are questions with this team. Are they going to move certain players, stand pat, or even add a piece or two? Regarding Sean Walker, one of their defenders who has gotten a lot of attention thus far, Anthony DiMarco stated that even if the Flyers and Walker can't come to a contract agreement ahead of the deadline, keeping him as an "own rental" could be in the cards.

DiMarco also noted that the Flyers can't justify taking him off of their roster when this is a playoff team right now unless they get exactly what they're looking for. I am going to assume this is a first round pick and while a team may be willing to pay that, it seems like a bit of an overpayment unless a team is desperate.

Walker has been impressive for the Flyers this season after acquiring him in the offseason from the Los Angeles Kings. He has stepped into a top-four role and has five goals and 20 points in 57 games. Contract talks are expected to start very soon according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, so just because Walker doesn't have a contract yet, doesn't mean that he can't by the end of the season or before free agency.
