Islanders Rumors: Brock Nelson Becoming Trade Candidate

The New York Islanders are currently seven points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. If they are unable to heat up during this final week leading up to the deadline, there is a very good chance that we will see them be sellers.

Because of this, there have been some rumblings over the prospect of the Islanders shopping top forward Brock Nelson over the next week.

Nelson, 32, would certainly generate plenty of interest if the Islanders elected to shop him. This is because he is a solid top-six forward who produces at nearly a point-per-game pace. This season, he has been quite solid, as he has 25 goals and 46 points in 58 games. Teams would love to add that kind of scoring to their rosters before the playoffs.

However, teams wanting to add Nelson will need to be okay with the fact that he would be more than a rental if acquired. This is because he has a $6 million cap hit until the end of next season.

Some clubs who could look to target Nelson over the next week include the Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres, and Carolina Hurricanes.

We will need to wait and see if the Islanders end up moving Nelson before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is here.
