Kings Rumors: LA's Trade Deadline Plans Could Be Changing

For a good portion of this season, the Los Angeles Kings were viewed as one of the top teams in the NHL and legitimate contenders. However, after some truly atrocious play over the last month, they have dropped rapidly in the standings and are fighting in the wild card race. They are also now showing many signs of improvement, as they lost their last game to the Buffalo Sabres by a 7-0 final score. They also have won only three out of their last 10 games.

Due to their immense struggles, The Fourth Period's Dennis Bernstein brought up the prospect of the Kings being sellers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline if they continue to struggle over their next seven games.

Bernstein also noted one Kings defenseman who could be dealt if this occurs is Matt Roy. This is because Roy is in the final season of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent. He would certainly generate interest, too, as he is a top-four defenseman who plays a very steady defensive game.

While this does not mean that the Kings will be sellers, it is fair to state that the possibility is growing. Their struggles are becoming too consistent, and if they drop further in the standings, they may have no choice but to trade off some assets. We will need to wait and see what happens on that front from here.
