Kraken Rumors: Alexander Wennberg Linked to Contender

The New York Rangers are expected to add a center to their roster before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline passes. This is because Filip Chytil has been ruled out for the remainder, while Nick Bonino had his contract terminated earlier this month.

With the deadline rapidly approaching, the Rangers are starting to browse the trade market more, and they are now being linked to a new center because of it. According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the Rangers have shown interest in Seattle Kraken forward Alexander Wennberg.

Wennberg, 29, is an under-the-radar trade candidate heading into the trade deadline. The veteran center is on an expiring contract, and with the Kraken's playoff hopes not being particularly high, there is a chance that they will move him in the upcoming weeks.

Wennberg would be a nice replacement for Chytil as the Rangers' third-line center if acquired. This is because he provides decent offense in a bottom-six role and could even see his production go up by joining a better Rangers team. With that, he would be a clear option for their power play, as he is known for his strong playmaking.

Wennberg has appeared in 56 games during this season with the Kraken, where he has eight goals, 22 points, and a plus-2 rating.
