Maple Leafs Rumors: 2 Players Being Looked At From Sabres

The Toronto Maple Leafs have really started to play some strong hockey and I don't think there is any doubt that we will see them in the postseason for the eighth season in a row. That being said, their lineup has been unpredictable this season, whether that be with production or overall play and the team is definitely looking at making some additions before the trade deadline to help themselves out.

This could be more impactful players or some depth pieces. Michael Augello says that the Maple Leafs could be interested in Zemgus Girgensons or Eric Robinson as depth acquisitions. The Buffalo Sabres aren't exactly in the running for a playoff spot unless they go on a massive run. There still may not be enough time between now and the trade deadline to warrant any change in plans that the team has already laid out.

There was more expected of the Sabres this season, but the hope is that it is coming. Neither Girgensons or Robinson are part of the future in Buffalo and there are many young players hoping to get a shot in the NHL to close out the season on the Sabres. Moving Girgensons or Robinson would be in the best interest of the Sabres, regardless of which asset they can get back.

The Maple Leafs have gone through a number of options up front, but Robinson brings a physical element Toronto doesn't always have while Girgensons has proven to be a strong depth piece for many years for the Sabres. Both would be cheap to acquire and at a low cost against the cap, but I would expect some money to be retained if the Maple Leafs are planning on making any larger additions this season on top of this. These are options, but the Maple Leafs seem to have a lot of them.
