Oilers Rumors: Edmonton Scouting Blues' Pavel Buchnevich

The Edmonton Oilers, as per Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, have intensified their pursuit of Pavel Buchnevich from the St. Louis Blues, eyeing him as a potential addition to fortify their second-line winger position.

Buchnevich's allure stems from his contract, extending beyond this season, aligning with Oilers' GM Ken Holland's preference for long-term acquisitions over mere rentals.

However, navigating cap constraints looms large, prompting the Oilers to explore creative solutions, akin to past dealings such as the Mattias Ekholm trade, where they offloaded contracts to accommodate acquisitions.

While Buchnevich presents an enticing option for the Oilers, securing his services may prove challenging given the Blues' competitive position in the playoff race.

St. Louis' General Manager Doug Armstrong is likely hesitant to part ways with one of their key forwards, especially amidst their push for a postseason berth.

Any potential deal would necessitate a compelling offer addressing both the immediate and future needs of the Blues, potentially requiring the inclusion of a promising young NHL player to entice St. Louis to part ways with Buchnevich.

The 28-year-old has scored 22 goals and 46 total points across 54 games played this season.
