Oilers Rumors: Metro Team Eyeing Philip Broberg

For a large portion of this season, Edmonton Oilers defenseman Philip Broberg has been a big name in the rumor mill. Now that the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is quickly approaching, trade chatter surrounding the young defenseman is only going to increase from here.

Broberg has garnered interest from a few teams over the last few weeks, with some being the Anaheim Ducks and Philadelphia Flyers. However, it appears that another club is now keeping an eye on him, as The Fourth Period reported that the Columbus Blue Jackets are linked to him.

While the Blue Jackets have several defensemen, the expectation is that at least a few of them will be moved. Because of this, they are in a position to take a chance on a young defenseman with promise like Broberg. This is especially so when noting that they have struggled immensely this season.

If traded to the Blue Jackets, Broberg would surely have the chance to receive far more chances at the NHL level. He would be an option for the Blue Jackets' bottom pairing, and he would also be a potential fit for both of their special team units.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what happens with Broberg from here. It is clear that the youngster could use a change of scenery at this juncture, and joining a weaker team like the Blue Jackets could be the right fit for him.
