Oilers Trade Rumors: 5 Wingers On Edmonton Radar to Pair With Draisaitl

The Edmonton Oilers have a stated mission of adding a top-six winger to the fold before the March 8th trade deadline. And whoever that chosen one is will get to line up alongside Leon Draisaitl as the Oilers head down the stretch of the season.

According to Daniel-Nugent Bowman in The Athletic, these five forwards are on Edmonton's radar as trade talks heat up over the next couple of weeks.

Jordan Eberle

A return to The Oil could be in the offing for the 33-year-old, who was originally drafted by Edmonton in the first round in 2008. The problem, here, however, is that the pending unrestricted free agent has a $5.5 million cap hit on his expiring contract, and in addition to securing a 50% retention from Seattle, the Oilers would have to move a body out. Eberle does not have a no-trade clause.

Jake Guentzel

This one presents all sorts of problems, starting with the fact that the Pittsburgh Penguins star is currently out until at least mid-March. Then we move to the onerous $6 million cap hit, and the 12-team no-trade list. Should they somehow be able to pull it off, and he returns healthy shortly after the deadline, he would undoubtedly be the biggest splash for the Oilers. And we now know that Pens GM Kyle Dubas is strongly leading towards trading Guentzel.

Patrick Kane

Edmonton has had interest in Kane in the past, and the three-time Stanley Cup champ has produced with 23 points in 24 games since signing with the Detroit Red Wings and would fit alongside Draisaitl perfectly if he can stay healthy. He does, however, have a full no-trade clause, and the Wings haven't exactly thrown in the towel on this season, as they still hold the 2nd Wild Card spot in the East.

David Perron

Again, see above. There's no word yet on the Red Wings being a seller. Perron is also a former Oiler, as well as a former Stanley Cup champ. He also has a hefty cap hit for Edmonton to overcome, at $4.75 million, with a 10-team no-trade clause.

Vladimir Tarasenko

The Ottawa Senators pending UFA comes with many of the pros and cons of each of the above: He'd make a great sidekick for Draisaitl, but comes with a hefty cap hit ($5 mill), and has a full no-trade clause. But we learned something about that NTC in a report earlier this week.
