Oilers Trade Rumors: Top Trade Target Would Waive No-Trade Clause To Join Edmonton

As NHL analysts and insiders continue to try to find perfect trade matches for the top candidates on the market, a new trade proposal in The Athletic on Tuesday would see top-six forward Vladimir Tarasenko joining the Edmonton Oilers.

Harman Dayal and Max Bultman write that the Russian forward is quite suited for the Oilers as a complementary piece. At 32, he's showing that he can still deliver this season, with 15 goals and 37 points in 50 games for the Ottawa Senators, with a plus-minus of +14, in just about 16 minutes of ice time per night. He could be a lethal addition on the wing on the Oilers' second line with Leon Draisaitl and Evander Kane.

And the best part? According to fellow Athletic hockey insider Pierre LeBrun, Tarasenko would be open to waiving his no-trade clause to come to Edmonton.

Dayal and Bultman suggest a deal that would send the Senators sniper to the Oilers, with a 75% retention on his $5 million cap hit that would send a 2025 fourth-round pick to a third-party team for the extra retention, plus a 2024 second-round pick and sixth-round pick to Ottawa.

Edmonton currently has just under $1.7 million in available cap space, but that could reach $2.3 million by the deadline according to Cap Friendly.

Tarasenko had a decent run with the New York Rangers after they obtained him at mid-season last year, recording 21 points in 31 games, and the Oilers could hope for that and more with the supporting cast he'd be given on that second line.
