Penguins Rumors: Goalie Standing Out as Trade Candidate

Things are not going well for the Pittsburgh Penguins right now. They have won just three out of their last 10 games and are seven points behind the Detroit Red Wings for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. If they are unable to heat up immediately over the next couple of weeks, it is far more likely than not that they will be sellers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline.

Because of the Penguins' struggles, one goaltender on their roster who is starting to stand out as a possible trade candidate is Alex Nedeljkovic. He is a pending unrestricted free agent, so he could generate plenty of interest over the next few weeks from playoff teams looking to improve their goaltending depth.

Nedeljkovic, 28, is having a strong season for the Penguins this season after a tough tenure with the Detroit Red Wings. In 18 games played, he sports a 9-4-3 record to go along with a 2.54 goals-against average (GAA), and a .919 save percentage (SV%). Overall, he has worked wonderfully as the Penguins' backup goalie, and he could do the very same for a playoff team needing help between the pipes.

Some teams who could consider making a push for Nedeljkovic over the next few weeks include the Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, and Carolina Hurricanes.

We will need to wait and see what happens with Nedeljkovic from here. If the Penguins continue to struggle and they do sign him to a contract extension, he certainly could be on the move by March 8.
