Penguins Rumors: Latest on Jake Guentzel's Trade Market
Pittsburgh Penguins star forward Jake Guentzel is one of the top trade candidates heading into the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. With the Penguins' playoff hopes continuing to decrease and Guentzel not having an extension, it is starting to seem likely that Pittsburgh will seriously consider moving him leading up to March 8.
Interest in Guentzel's services is starting to increase rapidly, too. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Vegas Golden Knights, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche, and Florida Panthers have all expressed interest in the Penguins forward. With that, he noted that he wouldn't be surprised if there are more clubs involved in the sweepstakes.
There is no question that Guentzel would be a massive addition to any of these five contenders, as he would give them another star forward to work with. The Golden Knights, Canucks, and Oilers have been heavily linked to him over these last few weeks, while the Avs and Panthers now appear to be stepping up their efforts to land him.
While there is interest in Guentzel, that does not automatically mean a trade will come to fruition. There is still a good amount of time left between now and the trade deadline, which means the Pens still have time to work on a new deal with him. However, if no progress is made and Pittsburgh stays low in the standings, don't be shocked if Guentzel ends up being moved to one of these interested clubs by March 8.
