Rangers Rumors: Kraken Forward On Team's Radar

The New York Rangers are heading into the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline with the expectation of being buyers. One area that they are going to be aiming to improve is their depth down the middle. Filip Chytil has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, and Nick Bonino's contract has been terminated, so they need upgrades immediately.

As a result of this, there are rumblings that one center that the Rangers have on their radar is Seattle Kraken forward Alex Wennberg.

Wennberg is a pending unrestricted free agent who stands a good chance of being moved before the trade deadline. This is because the Kraken's playoff hopes are looking fairly low due to their recent struggles. As a result, Wennberg is standing out as a prime rental candidate over these next few weeks.

Wennberg would be a solid addition to the Rangers' lineup, as he would be a clear fit as their third-line center. With that, he also would be an option for their second power-play unit, as he is a solid playmaker who can set up scorers nicely.

Wennberg is generating interest from several teams, however, so the Rangers have competition to land him. The Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, and Carolina Hurricanes are among the confirmed suitors for him, and that will likely increase as more bigger-name centers get off the board.

We will need to wait and see if the Rangers end up landing Wennberg before the deadline passes from here.
