Red Wings Rumors: Detroit Shopping Justin Holl & Shayne Gostisbehere

According to ESPN's Emily Kaplan, the Detroit Red Wings are proactively seeking trade opportunities for defensemen Justin Holl and Shayne Gostisbehere as the NHL trade deadline looms.

The Red Wings are reportedly open to dealing these players if the right offers materialize.

Holl, who has been a healthy scratch for nine consecutive games, and Gostisbehere, who is in the midst of one of his best seasons, are both under consideration for potential trades as the team looks to bolster its lineup.

Despite their current playoff position, Detroit is prioritizing long-term objectives over short-term gains, aligning with their commitment to ongoing rebuilding efforts.

General Manager Steve Yzerman is actively exploring options to enhance the team's depth and flexibility on defense, with the goal of securing valuable assets or prospects in return for the two defensemen.

This season, the 30-year-old Gostisbehere has nine goals, 38 total points, a -15 plus/minus rating, and 51 blocked shots across 58 games played this season.

Holl began the season on a high note, showcasing impressive form, but his performance has notably diminished over the season, leading to him being benched as a healthy scratch in recent games.

Throughout the 35 games he has participated in this season, the 32-year-old defenseman has yet to score a goal but has contributed with five points. He maintains a positive plus/minus rating of +7 and has 34 blocked shots.

As the trade deadline approaches, all eyes are on the Red Wings' front office to see how negotiations unfold.

The Red Wings are currently comfortably in the first Wild Card position, sitting with 72 points, three points ahead of the second spot Tampa Bay Lightning, and eight points ahead of the New Jersey Devils.
