Senators Rumors: Ottawa Shopping Former 1st-Rounder & Big Forward

The Ottawa Senators are currently engaged in trade discussions involving defenseman Erik Brannstrom and forward Mark Kastelic as they explore options to bolster their roster ahead of the trade deadline.

Brannstrom, a former first-round pick, has seen his future with the team become uncertain due to his struggles to secure a consistent spot in the lineup.

Despite his potential, the Senators are open to entertaining offers for the 24-year-old defenseman, although the specifics of what they seek in return remain undisclosed.

This season, he has scored three goals, 12 total points, a +1 plus/minus rating, and 62 blocked shots over 46 games played.

Over his six-year career, spent entirely with the Senators, Brannstrom has amassed seven goals, 61 total points, a -17 plus/minus rating, and 279 blocked shots across 236 games played.

Similarly, Mark Kastelic, finds himself on the trade block amidst speculation that the Senators might prioritize acquiring draft picks in any potential deals involving him.

The 24-year-old has scored two goals and three total points, along with 60 hits across 34 games played.

Over his three-year career in the NHL, the 6-foot-3, 210 lbs forward has amassed 11 goals, 18 total points, 156 penalty minutes, and 265 hits across 115 games played.

While Kastelic's future role within the organization is uncertain, the Senators appear willing to part ways with the young forward to optimize their roster composition and acquire assets for the future.

As trade talks progress, it remains to be seen what moves the Senators will make regarding these players.
