Arizona Coyotes' 3 Worst Contracts of 2023-24
The Arizona Coyotes tried to be more competitive this season and it worked for a time, but well before the trade deadline rolled around, the team ended up selling. They managed to move some of the worst contracts off the team or players like Jason Zucker and Matt Dumba would've appeared here. Regardless, let's now look at the three worst contracts on the team for the remainder of the season.
Karel Vejmelka
When it comes to goalie salaries, Karel Vejmelka's is far from the worst, but it isn't exactly great on the team this season. Luckily, the Coyotes have more than enough cap space, and even if they didn't, $2.75 million AAV for a 1b/backup this season isn't bad. His numbers are just far worse in comparison to Connor Ingram, who has started more games and been one of the most surprising goalies in the league behind the same team. Vejmelka still has one more year left on his deal and you would think he could put up better than a .897 SV% next season.
Josh Brown
Every defenseman on the Coyotes' roster is a free agent after the season and they are a younger group. Josh Brown, the oldest, is the second-highest paid player on that back-end, even though it isn't that high at all. For his role, he should be making league minimum or under $1 million AAV at the very least. But Brown earns $1.25 million this season and was the seventh defenseman when Dumba was still around. He has played 39 games, averaged 14 minutes a game, and has one goal and six points. He isn't anything special defensively. It is a bit picky to include him, but the Coyotes really don't have much worse since their team is young and on cheap contracts.
Alex Kerfoot
Alex Kerfoot also doesn't have a bad contract, but compared to the players on the Coyotes' it isn't amazing. He plays on the third line, makes $3.5 million AAV through next season, and has 11 goals in 69 games. While his point total isn't bad, his role isn't that big for one of the highest paid players on the team. Kerfoot also wouldn't have one of the worst contracts if he was on almost any other team.
